My cookie challenge cookies are done, finally lol :-)

So as I mentioned in my last post, I have decided to enter my first cookie challenge and I am pretty happy how they all came out.  If you didn't read the last post, the cookie challenge is from LilaLoa.com cookie blog.  And you had to take the diamond wedding ring cutter and create something new out of it and I decided on a clock, check them out!

Working on my Challenge Yourself -- Think Outside the Cutter Cookie Entry

Well I am finally done with my cookies for my first cookie challenge and for just learning the art of cookie decoration since December of 2012, I think they turned out pretty good and I am proud of them!  The challenge was to take the diamond wedding ring cookie cutter and use it to create something other than a diamond ring or use it along with another shape or cookie cutter to create something new.

So after a whole 48 hours of racking my brain for an idea of what to create out of the diamond ring cookie cutter and help from my wonderful hubby; Aaron, I decided to make fancy ornate table top clocks :-)  Well actually my original idea was to do a coo coo clock but funny thing happened and I forgot to cut out the door section on the top cookie lol so I did what I had to do.

So I made my clocks compound cookies then made them 3D by putting it on the pedestal.  I learned these techniques and so many more from Julia Ushers Ultimate Cookie Decorating Video Series but I purchased the online version and I highly recommend purchasing either the book or DVD format so you can always have it as a reference.  The online videos will expire and you will no longer have access to them :-(  But I still LEARNED A LOT FROM THEM and plan on purchasing the DVD version soon!  I also learned and used a wood look effect I learned at University of Cookie.

Check them out and wish me luck!

I am entering my first cookie challenge at LilaLoa.com!

It was a sure bet that during the the several hours of online research to teach myself the art of cookie and cake decoration, that I would fall in love with a lot of blogs and I have.  I have listed them in my right column menu so take the time to stop on by there, you won't be sorry.

But one day during my perusing I found myself back at Georgeanne's blog called: LilaLoa.com and she is having a cookie challenge called; "Challenge Yourself - Think Outside the Cutter".  HOW MUCH FUN!!  So I have decided to enter in, why not lol :-)  The idea is to take the diamond ring cookie cutter and make a new design out of it or by using it with another cookie cutter/shape.  My diamond cookie cutter is slightly different since it has the finger hole cut out int he middle of it but I am still entering and I have my idea in mind.  So yesterday I rolled and cut them out, baked, and outlined/filled the cookies with the tan base color. And today I put a wood look effect on the tan base color.  So let's hope they turn out as well as they look in my head.  If they do then you should see them tomorrow.

For more practice, I made Easter cookies for our Easter dinner!

So I have been teaching myself the art of cookie and cake decoration and for more practice to get perfect, lol.  I baked up some Easter cookies for our Easter Sunday dinner and I have to say they turned out pretty good.

I want to give credit to the artist/designer; Americo Kobashi from Creative Mundi.  Without the artwork these cute cookies would not have been even remotely possible because like lots of cookie decorators I have very little art skills and can only draw stick people.  So I used my trustee KopyKake projector and wonderful artwork like Americo Kobashi of Creative Mundi Scrap Shop.  I don't believe Americo is designing any longer but please visit the other talented designers at Creative Mundi.  They are great to use for your personal and commercial uses for scrapping, and other desktop publication and etc.  I did a lot digital scrapping in the past and that is how I know of the talented designers at Creative Mundi :-)

Pastor Cookies for a friend

I am still practicing on my cookie decorating skills and I am doing cookies for free for my family and friends. So a good family friend wanted some cookies to give to her pastor and this is what I came up with.  I am happy with them except the craters.  Which I don't understand since I used the heat gun on them for maybe not long enough or I have to do some more reading on the wonderful cookie decorating tips that are out there on the internet blogs and such :-)

A new adventure!

Hello and thank you for stopping by!

My name is Robyn and I have created this blog to log my process of teaching myself the art of cookie, cake and pop cakes.  One day, I hope to sell my custom creations under the MI Cottage Food Law at my local farmer and flea markets and other similar venues.  I have always been creative and crafty.  I have dabbled in many crafts from chocolate candy making in the 80's to give out to family and friends at Christmas time along with many types of homemade baked Christmas cookies, onto Crocheting in the 90's, to sewing, then Manual & Digital Scrap booking, Web & Blog Designing in the 20th century.

But, I have to admit that I had not been feeling very creative over the last year until this past Christmas when I got the fever to decorate some sugar cookies which was sparked by a beautiful sugar cookie post(see below) I had seen one day on Pinterest posted by the talented Marian of Sweetopia.

By the way, TOTALLY LOVE PINTEREST!!  So of course after seeing that and reading her article and the deep desire to not have my sugar cookies look like they did when I decorated them at age 7, lol.  So began the madness to find out all I could about professionally decorating sugar cookies.  So I read all of Sweetopia post and her one blog lead to reading more blogs, which lead to reading tutorial after tutorial as well as watching video after video.  After all the research and few small purchases, it was time to bake some Christmas sugar cookies and as luck would have it, my mom needed something to bring to bring to her two bowling Christmas parties.  Well, you can decide for yourself by viewing my cookies images below, but for me, I must say for this being my first attempt at professionally decorated cookies, I am very proud of my cookies.  I received many compliments from my family/friends and lots of them telling me I could do this for a living, hmm.  Well that thought never left my mind for the next week so then I began to research MI home based cookie bakery laws.  Once I did that, I agreed with my family/friends and realized that I can like many other stay-at-home wives, make a living at doing something that brings me such JOY!

A few were done by my wonderful hubby, Aaron.  Such as his brown Mr. Hankey snowman, LOL :-)  He is from the show South Park which my hubby loves, silly boy lol.

All the above images are the cookies I made for my mom's two bowling Christmas parties.
The cookies in the above and  below images are the cookies I took to my girlfriend, Jill's Holiday party.

So now my mission is to complete my home training and gathering all the supplies and equipment that I will need to begin my new business.
